The Dear Leader

I just watched a sobering documentary. It was a show on North Korea. In the film people there are so poor, so bad off but they don't believe that they are in bad shape. In fact, they LOVE the people responsible for their poor condition-their "Dear Leaders" Kim Jong Ill and his father.

People are terrified and in love with their leaders. A student who escaped across the border into South Korea told that as a radio announcer for the North he had accidentally announced that a holiday would happen the next day for the North. For this accident he said that his chance of survival was 0 percent. He escaped into the South but lost his friend who was electrocuted while crawling under an electric fence. When asked what happened to his family because of his escape, he replied "I'd rather not talk about it."

Another sad scene had recipients of cataract surgery done by a outside doctor, gaining their vision back after years of darkness, immediately going up to a picture of The Dear Leader and thanking it profusely and bowing deeply. "I will work harder in the salt mines to get more salt for my dear leader because you have given me my sight back!" said one lady.

The film had an unexpected effect on me. It strengthened my Christian faith. God does NOT force us to love him. We don't have to be afraid of him. He DIED for us. He is the anti-Dear Leader.

Thank you Jesus that we don't have to love you! I love you.
