Insurance...

Recently I was involved in something I'd never participated in before: An engagement! My two friends, who had been romantically linked since high school, were finally taking their relationship a step further. The man, my friend Adam, had flown out earlier in the week without telling Marilee, the woman, of his arrival. Adam decided on the location of the question (the Greenway Trail) and the decorations for the event (a dozen roses and lots of candles). It was a full moon night, the candles were lit, the roses in place, and a very nervous Adam was waiting in the shadows for Marilee.

It went off without a hitch. She read the notes, picked up the flowers, and very happily, said "Yes, I will!".

Soon after all the jumping around, squealing, picture taking, and ring admiring Rego said something that struck me as a weird thing to say at such a moment. "You'd better get insurance on that thing!" he said to a still speechless Marilee, admiring her ring.

At first I was like "Really Rego? Insurance on the ring? Thats all you can talk about at a time like this?" Then I gave it some thought. If something was to happen to the ring, Rego would be out a substantial amount of money and Marilee would be without her ring. Maybe insurance was a good idea, albeit bad timing.

What are you insured for? Your car? Your valuables? What about your eternal life? Maybe the more important question is who are you insured with?

"For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you...but with the precious blood of Christ"- 1st Peter 1:18-19
